Lisa Desselles (Advisor)is a Licensed Social Worker (LCSW), where she has been practicing in the past 16 years under the Clinical level. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Ecology from LSU in 1991. In 1996, she returned to LSU School of Social Work and earned a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Corrections. She worked 10 years for the Louisiana Department of Corrections, providing counseling and care to adjudicated youth, adult women and maximum security male inmates. Ms. Desselles has also worked with women and children in various programs to reduce the infant fetal mortality rate in Baton Rouge; to keep teenagers from being removed from their homes and she has worked with survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Currently Ms. Desselles is working for the Veterans Administration providing assistance with community resources to hospitalized Veterans. Ms. Desselles work experiences as well as her background as a teen mother was her first step for her to overcome adversity and excel in the field of social work which provided her with a sense of commitment and compassion to provide advice and direction under Lean on Me, Inc and the clients they serve.
Markeshia D. Watson (Board Consultant) is a native of Baton Rouge, LA. She graduated from Southeastern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She is currently working as an Adult Advocate with Southeast Advocates for Family Empowerment, formally known as Southeast Spouse Abuse Program. As an Adult Advocate, Mrs. Watson does crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, outreach, and safety planning. Mrs. Watson also serves on the Board for Tangipahoa Social Service Coalition, as their Vice-President. Lastly, Mrs. Watson enjoys empowering individuals and helping them make healthier life choices.
